This page will describe the technique of Blade Free LASIK. Blade Free LASIK is also known as Femto-LASIK, zLASIK, Intralase, IntraLASIK, or No Blade LASIK. It involves the use of a Femtosecond Laser, like the Intralase, Visumax, Femtec, or FemtoLDV to create the LASIK flap. After the flap is created using a femtosecond laser, the flap is lifted (as is usual in LASIK), and the flap kept to one side. Excimer Laser Corneal Reshaping is then carried out in the usual manner, to correct the refractive error. Once the corneal reshaping is carried out, then the flap is replaced back in its place, and the interface of the flap and the remaining corneal bed is washed by irrigation. The flap is then allowed to stick back in place, and the vision recovery is then similar to standard LASIK.

Blade Free LASIK with a femtosecond laser has several advantages.
